Aside from the on campus study areas and cafes, there are actually quite a few amazing student friendly spots right on KCL's Strand and Waterloo campus's doorstep! These recs are for if you might be in need of a change of scenery. 



national theatre lobby

The National Theatre Lounge wraps around the entirety of the ground floor of the theatre. A great study spot, right on the river front in a building filled with creative buzz

  • Free WiFi + laptop friendly

  • Plenty of seating - lots of other worker-bees/laptop users

  • There's a cafe but you don't need to buy something to use the space - can even bring in food from elsewhere

  • £5.00 Breakfast deal of a pastry and hot drink

  • ££ - averaging at £4 for a drink

  • Nearest station = Waterloo


toklas bakery

Right opposite the Macadam building, a delicious bakery with a gorgeous seating area in the back.

  • Free Wifi

  • Laptop hours any time aside from 12-2pm

  • Great ambience, beautiful artwork, array of magazines available 

  • Dog friendly!

  • ££ -More on the pricey side - averaging at £4 for a drink

  • Nearest station = Temple




rose bakery, dover street market

Dover Street Market, an indoor luxury fashion retailer, houses a quaint cafe on the top floor. 

  • Free WiFi + laptop friendly

  • Great ambience, lots of natural light, surrounded by fashion segments, array of magazines available

  • £3 average for drink

  • Nearest station = Charing Cross


reference point

As an extension of 180 Studios, Reference Point is a space which triples as a library, bookshop and bar. It is also a perfect study location.

  • Free WiFi + laptop friendly

  • Limited drink options, no food - can bring food/drink in from other establishments

  • Chill and artsy ambience - more of a quiet workspace.

  • Affordable - £2 for a black coffee

  • Nearest station = Temple



senate house library

Home to over 2 million books, Senate House Library is one of the UK's biggest libraries and it's free for most UoL students to use! A great alternative to your university libraries.

  • Free Wifi + laptop friendly

  • Tranquil quiet atmosphere, large communal rooms as seen in the image but there are also group study rooms - more of a good option for serious studying rather than informal.

  • Plenty of fellow student use these spaces.

  • Nearest stations = Tottenham Court Road and Great Portland Street
