Central London facilitates a vibrant scene of different activities that caters to multiple different preferences and is where majority of London's most famous landmark and cultural objects can be located. Aside from these more evident options, here are a few student friendly, affordable options. 


between the bridges


A summertime favourite. Right on Southbank's riverside Between The Bridges, London's biggest outdoor drinking area, resides. Eat, drink and dance right under the iconic London Eye.

  • Drinks and food can be more on the pricey side once inside

  • Range of events, from drag events to club nights.

  • Super lively ambience

  • Opening hours range but are typically from 12pm-11pm from Tuesday - Sunday. NOTE: this venue is only open in the summer months.

  • Nearest station = Waterloo

  • 18+ 



Whilst this is of course a well known one, Chinatown is an undeniable classic which has to be mentioned.

  • Simply just walking around and looking at all the different produce and baked goods available is a super fulfilling activity alone.

  • Plenty of restaurants to choose from, some fan favourites include: Beijing Dumpling, Ji chickens and Bun House.

  • Pricing ranges, but can be done affordably

  • Can be quite touristy and busy, particularly in the holidays and on weekends

  • Nearest stations = Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Tottenham Court Road

The Tate Modern and Britain are two of London's most renowned galleries and once a month they host a free late night event.

  • From DJ sets to food and drink, all immersed in the gallery's incredible art collection, this is one activity you can't miss!

  • The atmosphere is more civilised than a night out and these events typically end at around 9.30pm.

  • Nearest station for the Tate Modern = Blackfriars and London Bridge

  • Nearest station for the Tate Britain = Pimlico and Vauxhall


180 studios

Right on the strand, directly next to KCL, is 180 Studios, a creative "gallery" space which typically exhibits modern and emerging creative work.

  • Offers lots of immersive and unique exhibitions, providing a very creatively stimulating environment that's different to that of the more traditional galleries central offers!
